You may ask yourself, what the fuck is a Voodoo2 or a Voodoo for that matter. If you are one of the many people who think this way, don't worry, this is just for you.
What is a Voodoo/Voodoo2:
Around 2 years back, in the winter of '96 a company called 3DFx Interactive launched their new Graphics Chipset called the 3DFx Voodoo. People thought that they were insane, the chip supported only hard-core 3D Acceleration and ran on it's own API (Application Programming Interface) called Glide, worst of all it did not support 2D functions. The chip was meant to be used as an add-in card. working in conjunction with your existing Video Card. But amazingly, once people saw what a Voodoo based card could do for games, they snapped it up in large numbers, prompting companies like Diamond Multimedia and Orchid to release their 3DFx based cards. As a direct result of this, Game Companies could produce amazing, never before seen graphics effects in their games, the first being Quake with it's mouth watering GL acceleration which added translucent smoke, transparent water effects and more. They sold millions of cards based on the 3DFx chipset. Today a first-generation 3DFx based card can be picked up for a mere 90 dollars adding oomph to your aging game-rig. What you have witnessed Ladies and Gentlemen was the start of a revolution with others like NEC, Rendition, Matrox jumping onto the rapidly accelerating 3D Card bandwagon. But 3DFx has managed to retain the top-dog spot with it's new Voodoo2 Chipset.
